Superhero Kid Illustration

I love to paint, but for me there’s nothing like the immediacy and satisfaction of drawing. Sometimes I try to do a series of drawings on one subject and then give that subject different personalities and character traits. Sometimes I challenge myself to use inanimate objects too like a ball,  flower or a piece of wood etc. and see how I can add personality to them.

Here are some dog concepts for an upcoming illustration. Wasn’t sure which dog to go with since they all had some characteristics that I liked. I finally went with the pup on the far left.

Spaceship Concept

Sketching some retro space vehicles for a project I am working on. The shapes can be so varied and unique because there really are no rules as to the shapes and designs because who's ever seen a real UFO anyways.

So for now there's no rules, or not at least until some little green aliens land and tell me that I am designing their spaceships all wrong. But until then it's just a lot of fun to come up with some unique and quirky designs.

More Sketches

Same technique. Black pen only. I think these were a little more successful than my last attempt or at least I felt better about them. Thanks for looking.

Sketches

I was challenging myself to use an ink pen (no erasers). It’s definitely a challenge because you have to commit fully to your line work and there’s no turning back. It was also fun to see how many images I could fit on a page. Thanks for looking.

Forest Deer Illustration

Trying a new technique and working a bit looser than my usual tight illustration style. I may add some snow and other details but this was mostly a test to try something new. Thanks for looking.

Superhero Kid Illustration

A friend asked me to create an image for their child’s 6th birthday. Their child like's superheroes trucks and other toys so I tried to incorporate some of those things in the final image. It was a good challenge for my illustration skills and I was pleased with the final result.
